Sharon Cheney's Art Career

              as a Painter and Sculptor

Sharon Cheney began her art career in her teen years. She later attended the following schools in Montreal: Ecole des Beaux Arts, the Saidye Bronfman Center, and the Visual Arts Center. In addition, she has trained with many well-known artists. See Below

Sharon Cheney, a Quebec artist, has been involved in artistic expression for many years, participating in numerous shows.

Her sensitive representation of nature and people is felt by the viewer who is caught at once by their sensuality and emotional quality. Her works are in many collections in Europe, United States, and Canada, including the private collection of the former Canadian Prime Minister, Brian Mulroney.

Sharon Cheney was born and educated in Montreal, Quebec. She received her art training both locally and in the United States. She has been a prolific painter and scu1ptor for many years, and has participated in many group and solo shows.

Her oils and pastels reflect a mysterious emotional quality of sadness and joy, and spiritual acceptance. They also demonstrate her sensitivity and love of nature. Having traveled abroad extensively, she paints fascinating landscapes of exoctic place for all to share and enjoy.

The combination of her training as a therapist and her intuitive understanding of people is expressed in her sculptures, which are very moving.

As a teenager she studied with Ester Worthheimer. Later she studied stone sculpture with Stanley Lewis, life drawing and sculpting with Sylvia Lefkovitz, pastel painting with Horace Champagne, Max Stiebel, and Jeanne Lynn, Chinese water colors with Ming Ma, oil painting with David La Fell, sculpture and mold making with Donald Liardi, and Carman Flagelinni. portrait painting with Vincent Capario, landscape painting with Bruce Heggwitt, Frank Zukerell, and Rita Briansky, and floral painting with William Shultz. She also studied clay molding and life drawing at the Ecole des Beaux Arts.

As a member of the Pastel Society of Canada, the Conseil de la Sculpture de Quebec and the Arts Club of Montreal, she has participated in over 25 group shows in Quebec, Ontario, and New York, some of which she helped organize.

Though she paints scenes of Quebec, she has travelled to Australia, Japan, China, New Zealand, South America, the Middle East, and Europe for inspiration. She shares the vibrant colors and exotic landscapes, which have inspired her.

Sharon Cheney was born and educated in Montreal, Quebec. She was always fascinated by people even from an early age. For as long as she can remember, she liked to watch them and imagine what they were thinking and feeling.

All of these have given her an increased sensitivity and understanding into human nature. Her belief in Jungian psychology is reflected in her sculptures, many of which depict the many faces of the Goddess and other archetypes. The feminine principle is exemplified in her sculptures "The Temptress", The Fertility Goddess", "Sacred Marriage" and "Mother and Child."

Her oil paintings and pastels demonstrate her love of nature and often have a mysterious emotional quality to them. The viewer can readily relate to the variety of feelings expressed in her work.

Her channeled energy paintings are designed to heal the body as well as the spirit. These brightly colored oil paintings energize and bring joy just by looking at them. They can also be used as a focus for meditation.
