January 2014 Knowledge Newsletter
Dear Friends, I want to wish everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. We are all in a process of great change, the expression of which will be increased consciousness. Today I would like to speak about the difference between consciousness and mind and the advantages of being consciousness.
To understand consciousness, it is important to draw a distinction between consciousness and mind. Consciousness is transcendent to time and space and is not bound by the neurological activity in our brain. Mind refers to the sensory, mental and emotional experiences we have as a result of changes in our nervous system. We create meaning for all we experience through our physical brain, but these interpretations are constrained by the limitations of our mind. Scientists have shown that impressions received in the heart get sent to the brain through electrical impulses. So it is best to listen to your heart, where the interface with consciousness really takes place, rather than the interpretations your mind creates.
To define consciousness we must separate it from our day to day thinking. Consciousness is energy without form that is within and around us at all times. It is basically who we are. We all exist within multiple dimensions of consciousness and depending upon our level of soul evolution, we can be aware of beings and information that exist in the higher dimensions. We manifest as form in the lower dimensions of consciousness but in higher dimensions, we can alternate between our physical form and our light body.
Consciousness can’t be destroyed whereas physical things including our bodies can. Consciousness is infinite and eternal. Our I AM presence was in existence before our physical body. Our bodies may come and go, but consciousness is always remains and is the source of their creation. There are no limits to consciousness but the physical form offers no such guarantees. We all know our physical form changes all the time whether it is cells replacing themselves, the aging process, sickness or any number of other possibilities. The only guarantee we can have is that we will continue to exit whether we are in a body or not.
There are many advantages to being more conscious. It provides a different perspective through which to view the world. We can view people and events with compassion even when things do not go as expected or desired. We can access our guides, the deceased as well as any information at any time because consciousness creates and contains all that exists. It allows us to connect to our soul that has information about everything that has ever happened to us. Being conscious allows us to find peace and love within ourselves because we can now look at life from the soul perspective instead of the ego. Meditation is a good way to access consciousness.
Through your consciousness you can travel through space beyond the constraints of your physical existence. Each progression upward in consciousness brings with it a greater understanding of the interconnectedness of all beings in the cosmos. Higher consciousness or awareness of things beyond the tangible world is a sign of soul evolution. Increased consciousness brings an awareness and understanding of non-duality.
In a non-dual state of consciousness you no longer experience opposition. Duality or a belief in separateness disappears. In non-duality, there is only pure consciousness experiencing itself. When you experience non-duality through your heart chakra, you may experience impersonal love or a deep sense of cosmic connection. In other words, you fall in love with the cosmos and you become the Beloved and everything you see and witness is also the Beloved. When you experience non-duality through the crown chakra, there is no sense of a personal self.
Creation unfolds from the purest states of non-duality into the most polarized states of existence. Thus you may experience two seemingly conflicting states of existence that is your embodied life in time and space and non-dual states of consciousness in which all polarities and conflicts disappear. Consciousness can take on any form of expression. Every life form is an aspect of the divine and is created by consciousness.
Every thought is an object in consciousness that grabs our attention and pulls us in a particular direction. When we think, consciousness takes form. When we are just being, we are more receptive and accepting of what is around us. The secret to finding peace within is to align with consciousness in your heart center and not focus on the future or “what if’s” of life. When we focus on the future, it draws us away from being at peace in the present moment.
Some people believe that interconnectedness is the same as “oneness.” That as you enter higher states of consciousness, you merge with all that exists and that all distinctions disappear. Interconnectedness is the recognition that all beings and all aspects of the cosmos are interrelated while retaining their uniqueness. Sometimes the differences can be either annoying or enriching, but the differences are part of the manifestation of reality.
Interconnectedness recognizes the differences and respects the energetic boundaries between people rather than denigrating them to sameness because we are all “One.” Some individuals use the term “oneness” as an excuse to avoid personal accountability and responsibility. Regardless of our interconnectivity, we all remain unique individuals. The higher dimensions do not obliterate our uniqueness but rather present us with greater opportunities for creation.
One of the signs of an evolved consciousness is the recognition of interconnectedness. Humanity cannot continue to live with the delusion that humans can plunder the Earth with no consequences to the planet, humanity and its myriad of life forms. Interconnectedness can be symbolically represented by joining hands with all of humanity, acknowledging the unique differences of all individuals no matter their color, race, religion or beliefs.
With the shift that took place on December 2012, we are becoming more conscious which involves realizing our interconnectedness to all life and being able to access higher dimensions. When we use the expression “my life”, it is like seeing yourself as separate from consciousness, which is not really possible as our being is consciousness. When we focus solely on our thoughts or body, we can really never experience consciousness as we remain in the mind and are solely concerned with our sense of self rather than our I AM presence.
When we are in the world but not of it, we experience thoughts but they don’t draw us in. Like watching a movie, they are just experiences that do not change who we really are. We can acknowledge these thoughts but they don’t frighten us or draw us away from being at peace in the present moment. Ancient sages have repeatedly said that what we consider reality is not real. We only believe it to be so because we are stuck in our minds. The true reality is consciousness because it is eternal and encompasses all that exists.
A way to honor life is to accept the multitude of forms that consciousness creates rather than being resistant to what shows up in your life. Resistance only limits you. If you want to be free, you must say YES rather than NO to whatever presents itself as it is part of consciousness. There is always a reason that some situation or person has come into your life so perhaps it is wise to ask what you can learn from this person or situation rather than being resistant.
When we accept what comes into our lives, our attitude changes. We stop seeing the outer world as a threat or distraction from who we really are. We realize it is only part of the present moment and it will pass. We can access consciousness more readily when we do not resist any form, thought or action. Then we can live our lives independent of the world of form and be solely guided by the peace and love that resides within all of us. When we create peace within ourselves, we are in a state of being rather and doing. We are after all human beings not human doings.
When we base our decisions on hurtful or unpleasant past experiences, this draws us away from being in the present moment and allows our past to dictate how we respond in the present moment. It is best to relax and let your heart dictate what your decision should be.
